2. 상세
신대륙 이동이 활발하게 벌어지던 시절에 외과 의사 Brewster Higley가 작사하고 Daniel Kelly가 작곡한 곡으로, 말 그대로 서양판 '안빈낙도의 경지'를 말하고 있는 노래이다. 가사도 서정적인 데다가 은은한 분위기와 맞물려 서양에서 가장 인기 있는 민요이며 외국에서도 좋은 평가를 받는다.
시어도어 루즈벨트도 이 노래를 즐겨 불렀던 것으로 전해지고 있고, 캔자스 주의 주가로 지정된 것은 1947년이다.
