펜더 로즈 일렉트릭 피아노의 영롱한 선율이 돋보이는 발라드 곡이다. 1977년 9월 싱글로 발매되어
빌보드 핫 100 3위, 캐나다 2위, 아일랜드 7위, 영국 19위 등 세계 각지에서 큰 성공을 거두었고 1979년
그래미 어워드에서 올해의 노래상, 올해의 레코드상까지 2개 부문을 수상하며 큰 인기를 끌었다.
한국에서는 이 곡이 빌리 조엘의 어머니에 대한 곡이라는 이야기가 돌아다니지만 이는 잘못된 정보로, 실제로는 당시 빌리 조엘의 배우자
[1]였던 엘리자베스 웨버를 위해서 쓴 곡이다. 빌리 조엘과 그의 백 밴드 멤버들은 이 곡을 처음에 별로 좋아하지 않았고 앨범에 수록되지 않고 폐기될 예정이었지만, 《The Stranger》 녹음 당시 스튜디오로 놀러 온 미국의 가수 린다 론스태트와 피비 스노우가 이 곡을 앨범에 수록하라고 요청하면서 수록하게 된 것이다.
