1982년 발표된 그랜드마스터 플래시 앤 더 퓨리어스 파이브[1]
이 그룹 멤버들 중 이 노래의 작곡과 녹음에 참여한 사람은 랩퍼인 '멜리 멜'(Melle Mel) 한 사람 뿐이다. DJ인 그랜드마스터 플래시(이 사람도 힙합의 창시자 중 한명이다.)를 포함한 나머지는 곡 맨 끝의 스킷에서 출연한 것 말곤 한 게 없다.(...)

동명의 앨범에 수록되었다. 힙합 역사상 최초로 노래 전체를 할애하여 미국 흑인들이 처한 암울한 사회 현실들을 정면으로 건드려[2]
이전에도 없던 건 아니지만, 단편적으로 언급한 것에 불과했다.
1997년에 펍 대디와 메이스의 대히트곡 Can't Nobody Hold Me Down에 샘플링되었다.
