영국의 글램 록 밴드인 티렉스가 1973년 발표한 싱글이다. 마크 볼란이 작곡하였다. 발표되자 마자 UK Singles Chart에서 3위를 기록하며 히트했다. 원래 앨범에 수록된 곡은 아니었으나, 같은 해 발표된 앨범에 보너스 트랙으로 수록되기도 하였다.
1991년 UK Top 20 차트에 복귀하였는데, 이는 브래드 피트가 등장한 리바이스광고에 사용되었기 때문이다. 그 외에도 Jameson 아이리쉬 위스키 광고에도 쓰였다.
제목을 번역하면 20세기 소년.[1] 하긴 그 만화 자체가 이 곡에서 제목 모티브를 따 온 것이지만. 또한, 영화 트루먼 쇼, 벨벳 골드마인에 OST로 삽입되기도 하였다.
플라시보, 수지 앤 더 밴쉬즈, 엑스 재팬, 버킷헤드, 데프 레파드 등 여러 뮤지션들이 리메이크했다.
음악게임 기타프릭스, 드럼매니아 V6, 기타히어로 5, 록밴드 3에도 수록되었다.
