1. 개요

University of London, 즉 런던 대학교 그룹은 영국의 대학 연합체이다. UCL 과 KCL 의 주도로 설립 되었으며 이들을 포함하여 산하에 여러 개의 대학과 연구기관으로 구성되어 있다. 총장은 앤 공주로 1981년 취임했다.[1]

2.1. 탈퇴한 회원

  • 헤이스롭 칼리지 (Heythrop College) – [6] 2018년 폐교하였다.
  • 해양 생물학 대학교, 밀포트 (University Marine Biological Station, Millport) – 2013에 폐교하였다.
  • 임페리얼 칼리지 런던 (Imperial College London) – 2007년에 탈퇴하여 독립하였다.
    • Wye College – Wye, Kent; Wye courses are now run by the University of Kent in partnership with Imperial, and graduating students receive a University of Kent degree and an Imperial Associateship of Wye College[78]
    • Royal Postgraduate Medical School; now part of the Imperial College School of Medicine
  • New College London, was closed in 1980. Despite the name the college never had any association with Royal Holloway and Bedford New College.
  • The Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine, Chelsea, London, founded 1891. In 1978 became a science funding body
  • Richmond (Theological) College was closed as a theological college in 1972 with the campus being transferred to The American International University in London
  • Regent's Park College moved to Oxford in 1927, becoming a Permanent Private Hall of the University of Oxford from 1957
[1] 다만 영국에서의 총장은 사회 명사들에게 수여하는 명예직에 가깝다. 실질적인 학교의 운영관리는 각 학교의 부총장과 이사(Director)가 담당한다.[2] 2016년도에 University of London에 가입[러셀] A B C D 러셀 그룹 소속이다.[3] 석사와 박사 과정만 제공하는 대학원이다.[4] University of London 소속이지만, 소재지는 런던 부근 Egham이다.[5] Humanities 관련 석사와 박사 과정만 제공하는 대학원이다.[6] University of London 자체가 19세기 이후에 형성된 조직이다. 헤이스롭 칼리지가 1614년에 설립됐고 19세기 이후 Univ. of London에 가입할 수는 있으나, 1614년에 Univ. of London에 가입했을 수는 없다. 아마도 Univ. of London의 멤버들 가운데 헤이스롭 칼리지의 역사가 가장 오래 됐다는 사실이 와전됐거나 오역된 것으로 보인다.
