1989년 개봉한 디즈니 애니메이션 인어공주의 OST. 앨런 멩컨이 작곡, 하워드 애시먼이 작사를 맡았으며 세바스찬 역의 사무엘 E. 라이트가 노래를 불렀다. 1990년 제62회 아카데미 시상식에서 주제가상 후보로 올라 공연을 펼쳤으며 주제가상을 수상했다. 디즈니 최고의 OST 중 하나라는 평을 받는다.
작중에서 세바스찬이 에리얼에게 인간이 되지 말고 바다에 남아달라고 애원하면서 이 노래를 부른다. 가사 내용에는 인간 세상은 불행하지만 바다 밑은 살기 좋은 곳이라는 의미가 담겨있다.[1] 가사에서 라임이 아주 찰지고 잘 짜여있다.
2008년 브로드웨이에서 초연된 뮤지컬 인어공주에 삽입되었으며 세바스찬 역의 티투스 버지스가 노래를 불렀다.
2000년 《유로비트 디즈니》에선 데렉 시몬스가 커버했다.

We've got a hot crustacean band Each little clam here know how to jam here Under the sea Each little slug here cutting a rag here Under the sea Each little snail here know how to wail here That's why it's hotter under the water Yeah, we in luck here down under the muck here Under the sea	에리얼, 좀 들어봐 인간 세상은 엉망이야 바다 밑 세상이 육지 사람들의 어떤 것보다 더 낫다구 원래 먼바다의 해초가 언제나 훨씬 싱싱해 보이지 너는 육지로 올라가길 꿈꾸지만 그건 큰 실수야 너의 주위를 좀 둘러봐, 바로 여기 바다 밑바닥 이렇게 아름다운 것들이 네 주위에 있는데 뭘 더 찾으려는 거니? 바닷속에 바닷속에 아가야 여기 바닷속이 훨씬 촉촉하고 좋은 곳이야 날 믿어 저 물 위에선 하루 종일 일을 하지 태양 아래서 노예처럼 하지만 우린 항상 헤엄이나 치고 다니잖아 바닷속에, 후하하하후~ 이 밑에는 모든 물고기들이 행복해 왜냐면 물살이 그들을 구르게 해 주니까 물 위에 있는 고기는 기쁘지 않아 왜냐하면 걔네는 어항에 갇혀 있거든 어항에 있는 물고기는 그나마 운이 좋지 나머지는 비참한 운명이야 어느 날 주인이 배가 고프면 접시 위에 뭐가 올라갈지 누가 알아 바닷속에 바닷속에 아무도 우리를 썰고 튀겨 프리카제[3]로 만들지 않지 육지 사람들은 우리를 먹고 싶어 하지만 우리는 여기선 안전하지 아무런 문제가 없어 바다 밑 인생은 환상적이야 여기선 음악이 있으니 삶이 행복하지 자연스러운 거야 심지어 철갑상어와 가오리도 충동을 느끼고 연주를 시작하지 우린 활기에 차 있어 한 번 들어 봐 바닷속에 영원은 플루트를 연주하고 잉어는 하프를 연주하고 가자미는 베이스를 연주하죠 아주 빈틈이 없답니다 농어는 금관악기를 연주하고 쳐브는 통을 연주하지 운 좋게 박자를 맞추는 게 기가 막혀! 가오리는 수염대구를 현처럼 만들어서 연주할 수 있어요 송어는 연기를 하고 블랙피시는 노래를 해 빙어와 청어는 자기 임무를 잘 알고 있지 그리고 복어는 부풀어 올라! 예, 바닷속에 바닷속에 정어리가 비긴을 연주하기 시작하면 그건 내게 음악이지 물 위 사람들이 가진 건 뭘까? 모래? 우리에겐 열정적인 갑각류들의 밴드가 있어 작은 조개들도 어떻게 즉흥 연주를 하는지 알지 바닷속에 작은 민달팽이는 저마다 춤을 춰 바닷속에 조그만 달팽이도 어떻게 소리 지르는지 알고 있어 그래서 여기 바다 밑이 더 활기찬 거야 시시한 육지 아래 여기에 있는 우리는 운이 좋은 거라고 바닷속에	저 건너편 바다 미역 더 싱싱해 뵈지만 네가 거길 가 본대도 실망만 더 커질 걸 네 주위를 보려무나 바로 아래 바다를! 아름다운 네 주위를 한 번 더 보려무나 저 바다 밑 저 바다 밑 촉촉한 바다 이토록 언제나 즐겁지 사람은 뙤약볕 아래 종일토록 일하지만 우리는 종일 헤엄치지! 저 바다 밑 우린 모두 행복하지 파도타기 즐거워 그 누구도 모르겠지 어항 속 고기들은 답답하고 지루하지 불행하게 산다네 그 주인이 배고프면 잡아먹고 만다네 오오! 저 바다 밑 저 바다 밑 아무도 우릴 잡거나 놀려대지 않아 우리는 눈치가 빨라 미끼도 피할 줄 알아 안전한 세상 끝일 리 없어 저 바다 밑 (저 바다 밑) 저 바다 밑 (저 바다 밑) 달콤한 세상 모두가 행복하게 살리 철갑상어 가오리도 흥이나 연주를 하네 이렇게 즐거운 하루이틀 저 바다 밑 플룻도 불고 하프도 치고 베이스 소리 신나게 들려 나팔도 불고 멋진 튜바 매력 있는 색소폰 현악기도 연주를 해 참지 못하고 흔들어 대고 노래하네 음치는 하나도 없어 저음도 멋지네 저 바다 밑 (저 바다 밑) 저 바다 밑 (저 바다 밑) 여기에선 모든 것이 함께 노래하지 (노래를 하지) 무엇일까 말을 뭐해 우리는 멋있는 밴드야 조개들까지 연주를 하지 저 바다 밑 불량배까지 춤을 춘다네 저 바다 밑 이 작은 달팽이들도 함께 모두 즐거워 저 바다 밑에 사는 우린 참 운이 좋다네 저 바다 밑
