스코틀랜드 글래스고의 공립 종합대학교. 1451년 개교한 이래 500년이 넘는 역사를 자랑한다. 러셀 그룹의 멤버이자 스코틀랜드 4개 고대 대학(Ancient universities) 중 한 곳이다. 18세기 스코틀랜드 계몽주의 운동의 중심이었다. 근대화 이전에는 부유한 학생들만을 가르치는 것으로 유명했으나 19세기부터 중산층 학생의 입학을 받아들였다. 개교 이래 7명의 노벨상 수상자와 3명의 영국 총리를 배출해냈다. 제임스 와트가 글래스고 대학교에서 재직했고, 아담 스미스와 조지프 블랙, 제임스 윌슨 등의 저명한 학자들이 수학하기도 했다.
2. 학과 구성
총 4개 칼리지 21개 스쿨로 구성되어있다. 이밖에도 글래스고 예술학교(Glasgow School of Art)와 결연관계를 맺고 학위를 수여한다.
