Eye of the Tiger
1. 개요
미국의 록밴드 서바이버의 세번째 앨범 'Eye of the Tiger'에 수록된 곡. 1982년에 발표되었으며, 영화 록키 3의 테마곡으로 쓰였다. 발매 당시 6주간 빌보드 핫 100 1위를 차지했다. 1986년 동명의 영화에서도 타이틀곡으로 쓰였다. 원래 실베스터 스탤론은 록키 3에 퀸의 Another One Bites the Dust를 쓰고싶어 했지만 퀸과 연락이 닿지 않아 서바이버에 이런 느낌의 곡을 의뢰해서 만들어졌다고 한다. 그리고 매우 성공적으로 테마곡이 완성되었다.[1]
밴드 이름은 못 들어봤어도 노래는 들어본 적 있을 것이다. 록키 하면 생각나는 테마가 Gonna fly flow와 함께 투 탑을 달릴 정도. 우리나라에서는 1980년대 스포츠화 광고에 많이 사용되면서 유명해지기 시작했으며, 짧은 광고 시간의 특성상 전주 부분만 쓸 때가 많았고 이후 방송음악으로 인용될 때에도 유명한 부분만 따서 쓰다 보니 우리나라 사람들에게는 전주 부분이 특히 유명하다. 특히 예능프로 등에서 둘이 결투 등을 할 때 이 음악의 전주 부분을 주로 사용한다.[2] 저 노래가 국내에서도 히트했던 80년대에는 노래 전체가 유명했지만 최근에는 이 전주 부분만 아는이도 많을 정도.
이 곡의 히트로 서바이버는 록키 4의 테마곡인 Burning heart도 부르게 된다. Eye of the Tiger만은 못해도 나름 세계적으로 히트했다.[3]
네모바지 스폰지밥의 에피소드인 직원교육용 비디오의 도입부에 흐르는 음악을 이것과 헷갈려하는 사람들도 있으며 그 곡은 David Reilly의 Quest For The Best라는 곡이다.
이상민이 결성한 프로젝트 그룹 '브로스'의 'win win'의 샘플링 곡으로도 쓰였다.
