북미 지역도 유럽 지역 만큼 많은 팀이 참가 신청했다. HGC 입성 유력 후보로 손꼽히는
Team Naventic과 Gale Force Esports도 참가 명단에 이름을 올리고 있다. 또한, 참가 팀 명단에서 오래전 해체됐던 Team Blaze, King of Blades 등 반가운 이름과 Invisible Threat Gaming 등 새로운 e스포츠 팀도 확인할 수 있다.
프로 게임단뿐만 아니라 수많은 아마추어팀들도 이름을 올리고 있다.
글로벌 챔피언십 북미 지역 예선 본선에도 진출한 경력이 있는 걸출한 팀부터 이번 대회를 위해 결성된 팀까지 정말 많은 수의 아마추어팀들이 참가해 이번 대회에 열기를 더하고 있다. 이 중에는
히어로즈 오브 더 스톰 스트리머로는 가장 유명한 Chu8도 팀을 꾸려 참가해 눈길을 끌고 있다. 일설에 따르면 이번 HGC에 제법 진지하게 참여하고 있다고 하니 이 팀의 활약을 지켜보는 것도 이번 예선의 백미가 될 것으로 보인다.

64강 토너먼트로 진행된다.
대진은 순위에 따라 짜이며 60개 팀이 참가한 관계로 각 1, 2, 3, 4위로 배정받은 Gale Force Esports,
Team Naventic, Dumpster Tier Superstars, Gust or Bust는 부전승으로 먼저 32강으로 진출했다.

4. HGC 진출 팀
이변은 없었다. 앞서 치러진
유럽 지역 1차 예선과 마찬가지로 1, 2순위로 시드를 받은 Gale Force Esports와
Team Naventic이 가장 먼저 HGC 북미 리그 참여를 확정 지었다. 이로써 기존에 북미 지역 프로권 무대에서 활동 중이었던 게임단은 전부 내년 HGC 리그에 참여하게 됐다. 하지만 이번에 다시 모습을 보인 King of Blades와 Team Blaze는 각각 64강, 16강에서 탈락하며 그다지 좋은 모습을 보여주지 못했다. Invisible Threat Gaming도 16강에서 탈락하며 HGC 리그의 높은 벽에 부딪히고 말았다.
반면 유명 스트리머인 Chu8이 꾸린 팀은 나름 선전하였지만 8강에서 Gale Force Esports를 만나며 1차 예선은 8강에서 마무리 지었다.
