1. 개요
1966년 발매된 롤링 스톤스의 노래. Aftermath(앨범)의 미국반에 오프닝 트랙으로 수록되었다. 가사 내용은 실연을 당한 남자가 모든 것을 검게 물들여 버리고 싶다는 내용이다.[3] 브라이언 존스의 시타르 연주가 음울한 분위기를 조성하면서 수렁에 빠진 베트남 전쟁시기의 60년대 정서를 잘 나타내는 명곡. 훗날 베트남 전쟁을 다루는 미디어물에서도 단골로 등장한다. 빌보트 차트 1위를 달성하는 등 대중적인 인기도 많아 지금까지도 롤링 스톤스의 라이브 공연에서도 빠지지 않고 불린다. 라가 락, 싸이키델리아, 싸이키델릭 락 장르의 곡이다.

앞서 말했듯이 베트남 전쟁을 다룬 미디어에 자주 등장한다. 우리나라에서 대표적인 것이 바로 외화 머나먼 정글의 오프닝. 스탠리 큐브릭 감독의 1987년작 풀 메탈 재킷의 엔딩에도 삽입되었다. 냉전시대는 아니지만 콜 오브 듀티: 블랙 옵스 3 트레일러에도 사용되었고,[4] 마피아3에서도 주인공이 배신당하는 장면에서 사용되었다. 데블즈 애드버킷의 엔딩 크래딧에도 사용되었다.
Hidden Citizens가 리메이크한 버전이 유명하다. 우울한 원곡과는 멸망이 가까워 진 듯한 전혀 다른 분위기를 낸다.
이후, 2016년 미드 웨스트월드에서 서부시대가 배경인 가상현실에 맞게 리메이크되었다.
